Destiny 2 expansions The Final Shape accidentally becomes playable for 5 hours

Just under one week away from the launch The Final Shape, the last ever expansion for Destiny 2’s Light and Darkness saga, has been accidentally leaked, allowing eager fans to play it ahead of its official release.

The Final Shape is due to launch on June 4 and while Destiny 2 will still continue on in one form or another, this expansion marks the end of game in its current shape. The story has been going on for a decade now, and The Final Shape will see players going up against The Witness who also commands the Black Fleet.

However, due to a monumental cock-up a build of the expansion was made accessible via PS5 streaming today and was available for around 5 hours before Sony and Bungie managed to fix the problem.

5 hours is a lot in Internet time though. Storylines, weapons, classes, raids, badges and more have flowed out into the Internet. Some people are even claiming to have beaten the main missions and more.

It goes without saying that if you don’t want to have the game spoiled you should avoid the obvious places like Discord, Reddit and so on, and be careful on Youtube where videos showing…well, everything are already circulating like pizza at a college dorm.

This is a massive blow for Bungie and Sony. While leaks are not unusual, it is fairly odd for a game or expansion to become fully playable a week before its due to come out. It’s just a huge shame for everyone who has worked hard on The Final Shape as well because it obviously ruins their moment of getting to see everyone experience the last expansion at the same time.

Ah well. Looks like someone is going to be in serious trouble for this one.
